The Scottish Government has published its draft Climate Change Plan (CCP) for public consultation.
The draft CCP outlines how the first three carbon budgets will be met, covering the years 2026-2040. This is a vital step for Scotland to reach net zero by 2045, while offering huge opportunities for economic growth and benefitting emissions reduction targets not just in Scotland, but for the whole of the United Kingdom. Likewise, UK Government action on transport for the whole of UK will be key towards Scotland realising its full potential on climate action.
The draft CCP includes 28 actions for the transport sector, including policy interventions that support modal shift through more sustainable forms of travel and a more rapid transition to electric vehicles.
The Scottish Parliament will be scrutinising the plan until 5 March 2026 and it is expected that the Climate Change Plan will be finalised during this Parliament following consideration of the feedback received.
The public consultation is open until 29 January 2026 and the link to respond, plus the full publication, can be found here: Scotland's Climate Change Plan – 2026-2040 - gov.scot
